Elly Crichton Stuart


Elly Crichton Stuart is a storyteller, performer and writer who is passionate about storytelling, roleplay and creativity as tools for transformation. She also works in intergenerational healing. Working with heart and humour, Elly aspires to lead people from 4 - 104 on a journey of discovery.

Elly has been involved with the Art of Mentoring since 2011 and is passionate about the opportunity for Elders to sit together with Youngers and listen and learn from one another.
She gives talks and is available for work in schools and communities.

Elly trained at Arts Educational Drama School and worked as a performer, producer and writer for many years. In 2003 Elly left The Unicorn Theatre for Children in London, to go to The School of Storytelling at Emerson College. In 2006 she returned to Essex University (M.A in Art History 1980) to study The Tale with Marina Warner. She attended the TOWARD ELDERHOOD training on The Art of Mentoring summer camp and in 2018 she trained with Heidi Stephenson and Matt Harvey as a performance poet for the Arts Council funded project “Totally Totnes” broadcast on Soundart Radio on National Poetry Day, October 4th.

Elly has worked all over the world as a storyteller since 2004 when The Fabulists were awarded funding to take The Outsider Storytelling project to schools in rural Essex. Over the next few years she was employed by The British Council to run workshops in different parts of the world. Since then she has worked with thousands of children around the world and trained adults and young people as storytellers.

In 2017 Elly worked with primary schools in South Devon on The Earth Stories Project and ran storytelling courses Exploring the Elder. She has run creative writing sessions for CRUSE Bereavement Care and worked at the Scottish Centre for Storytelling and the Findhorn Foundation.
She works towards the regeneration of our culture through The Art of Mentoring. and the Pulse Group for Transition Town Totnes. Elly is passionate about bringing young people together with Elders. She works in Scotland and Devon, giving talks, telling stories, offering trainings, and supporting the growth of a healthier culture.
